My Internship Experience: Megan Devlin
Over the summer, Megan interned for the Marcomm Group in Glen Cove, N.Y. with the title of Public Relations Specialist. While interning, some of her responsibilities included daily research for print and online placements for the client, attending trade shows, follow up research on clients that were met at those trade shows, helping organize the competitor analysis for InfoComm 2016, and research on publications for potential new clients.
Megan utilized many skills she learned as a Communications major to complete many of her tasks. She felt that her public relations class and the research skills she developed helped her the most at the internship. Overall, Megan found the internship to be a learning experience. She added, “Anyone I ever talked to about college made sure to tell me that I have to do an internship because it will help to benefit me and I now can see why. Not only was it a learning experience for me to learn the business, but I also learned how the industry works, how to work in an office with other people, and other things that you can only learn by being placed in such situations.”
Before leaving Marcomm Group, Megan received advice from her internship coordinator. “Always proofread two or three times before sending something, not just spelling, but facts as well”, said Megan. In giving advice to students interning this semester, Megan recommends everyone to not be shy, be yourself and step outside your comfort zone. She added, “That is what I did and not only did it make me a better intern, but a better person for knowing what I can accomplish.”
